“Shelter Me, Baby: Because Rain Doesn’t Care If You’re Armed”
This week, we’re talking shelter — because exposure kills faster than thirst or hunger. Doesn’t matter how many knives you packed if you’re soaked and shivering.
What Counts as Shelter (And What Doesn’t)
Your hoodie? Not shelter.
Leaning under a pine tree? Not shelter.
Your truck? Temporary at best.
You need something quick to deploy, weatherproof, and packable.
Essentials:
-
Tarp + paracord combo — Lightweight, fast setup, endless options
-
Bivy sack or Mylar bag — Retains heat, packs down to nothing
-
Pop-up or ultralight tent — For extended ops or base camp
-
Wool blanket + ground pad — Keep heat in, cold out
-
Rain gear — If your clothes soak through, you’re done
Reality Check:
If you can’t set up your shelter one-handed or in the dark, it’s not a survival shelter.
Practice like you’re hurt, cold, and pissed off — because one day, you will be.
Challenge of the Week:
Set up your shelter kit in your backyard or a field.
Time yourself. No excuses. Then test how it holds up in wind or rain.
You’ll find your weak spots quick.

It ain’t sexy — but if you’re bleeding out, this is the only gear that matters.
